German Village Parking Plan
The Division of Mobility and Parking Services is actively working to improve mobility and parking options in the German Village and surrounding neighborhoods. We recognize the character of the neighborhood is unique and requires a customized approach to meet the needs of residents, businesses and visitors.
In the spring of 2023, the Division kicked off the public engagement process with an open house style meeting held at the German Village Meeting Haus. This was an opportunity to listen to the challenges, perceptions and needs related to mobility and parking. The feedback received helped guide the parking study that was completed summer 2023.
In November of 2023, the Division met with the public once again to solicit additional feedback and review the parking study results that took place over the summer. The Division facilitated conversation in a table exercise with groups of 8-10 people. This was a way for residents to bring concerns in a more concentrated way. Upon conclusion of this meeting, residents were asked to sign up for the parking or mobility working groups to continue their involvement.
In January, February and March, the Division formed and met with the mobility, parking and business working groups to further refine recommendations. Attendees were asked to think holistically about German Village and surrounding neighborhoods, share findings with neighbors and generally be respectful of contrasting viewpoints.
Our next public meeting was held at the German Village Meeting Haus on May 1 where the Division discussed next steps and present proposed recommendations formed from working groups.

Tentative Timeline
- Spring 2023: Define parking study area and determine data collection days and times
- Summer 2023: Form stakeholder groups and collect data
- Winter 2023: Analyze parking data and hold public meetings to present findings
- Spring 2024: Stakeholder working group meetings and develop recommendations; Hold public meeting to present recommendations
- Summer/Fall 2024: Implement safety improvements; install bike racks and scooter corals; Work on logistic of permit parking plan
- Winter 2024/Spring2025: Implement permit parking
