Columbus Police Training Academy Training

Our primary responsibility is the professional development and education of police personnel, representing the values of professionalism embraced by the City of Columbus and Division of Police.

Law Enforcement Officers are in high demand and quality training is paramount to success in the job. The Columbus Division of Police is proud to open our basic academy to outside agency recruits. Our recruits receive over 1,200 hours of training including 40 hours of scenario based training. Our 31 week program will equip your recruits with the tools needed to become exceptional law enforcement officers; including but not limited to: defensive tactics, physical training, patrol operations, law and legal procedures, human relations, applied behavioral science, criminal investigation and firearms. Recruits graduate with not only the ability to be the best officer they can be but a family and community they can count on for the rest of their lives. Many agencies, such as Dublin, Westerville, Hilliard, and Newark have sent their recruits through the Columbus Academy with great results.

The below classes unless noted otherwise are open to all certified law enforcement officers who are presently employed by a law enforcement agency. A Columbus Police Officer will confirm your employment prior to your attendance. Registration for these classes will be completed by email only. If you have questions regarding any of these classes please email the Advanced Training Staff, or call at (614) 645-5028.
