Enhanced Meter Project

The Department of Public Utilities has approximately 300,000 water meters in Columbus and contracting communities and 17,000 Columbus power meters. The Enhanced Meter Project (EMP) will allow both the Division of Water (DOW) and the Division of Power (DOP) to collect electronic meter readings and provide expanded services for customers. This project will result in enhanced customer service, improved operational efficiency and increased meter accuracy.

Following project development and a pilot project testing phase, installations are scheduled to begin in late January 2023 and will continue for the next few years, area by area. Financing for the EMP is being provided thanks to a below-market rate loan through the OEPA’s Water Supply Revolving Loan Account (WSRLA) Program.
