While our City Charter identifies several responsibilities for the Commission, we’re probably best known for our work in assisting City departments and elected officials with keeping the City’s nearly 9000 positions filled with qualified individuals making a difference in our community every day.

The City of Columbus employs over 10,000 people in approximately 660+ different job titles.  City employees perform a variety of necessary jobs that help to maintain the quality of life for city residents, such as collecting the trash, repairing streets, providing clean water, keeping the traffic lights working, and providing police, fire, and EMS services.  The work can be interesting, with good pay, great benefits, and opportunities for advancement.  Some career opportunities may require you take and pass a Civil Service test.  Come learn about the Civil Service Commission testing process!
